Berkshire School Games
Following on from the success the team had at the Borough competition held a few weeks earlier at Herschel Grammar, on Weds 16th March, DPA Girl's Football Team made their way to Bisham Abbey National Sports Centre for the Berkshire School Games, 2016. It was a cold, but very exciting day with plenty for the girls to do in the run up to the big event! We spent the morning taking in the scenery at the world famous Bisham Abbey and trying out a range of sports including sailing, cycling, and archery. After a short lunch break and team chat the girls began their warm-up ahead of the big competition. Our pool was tough playing against Newlands, Waingels (who went on to win the gold) and John Majeski Academy. The girls put in a solid performance during their first game, beating Newlands with a convincing 3-0 win. A strong performance in defence from captain Jardae Hodge -Spencer meant Newlands had little chance to attack.
The girls went on to the next game confident, but unfortunately couldn’t outwit the pace and skill of a few of the Waingels players. They defended well, conceding only 2 goals, but couldn't quite find the back of Waingels net. The final game against JMA was pivotal...we had to win this to get to the Semi-finals. The girls knew what was at stake, having seen JMA play, we thought we were in with a good chance, however the nerves got the better of the DPA team. JMA took the game 2-0, despite some fantastic shots on target from Amaya Navarro and Iqra Chowdhary.
It wasn't the result the team wanted, however, they put in a solid performance and continue to grow stronger and more united every time they play! Yesterday was a huge honour for the girls and one they should all be incredibly proud of. Congratulations to the KS3 football team for representing Slough in the Berkshire School Games 2016 and for a fantastic season overall.
