Year 8 Netball
The DPA Y8A Netball Squad (Iqra, Tanveer, Amber, Sahij, Alaiba, Layla T, Areinne, Naomi) took part in the Slough Schools Y8 Netball Tournament on Tuesday 21st March. After playing 7 games in the pool stages, the girls were thrilled when it was announced that they had gone through in second place, just behind St Bernard’s. The girls took on a strong Langley Grammar side in the semi – finals winning by an impressive 5-3. Last year the team got to this stage, but unfortunately missed out to the grammar school.
The girls had a second chance against the reigning champions, St Bernard’s. They were fired up and ready to go. The game was explosive, fast, and skilful; the ball was up and down the court like a pogo stick. DPA took the lead 2-0, St. Bernard’s gaining an extra 2 goals shortly after. DPA then went up 4 -3, with St Bernard’s equalizing in the last 45seconds of play. AT the end of full time the score was 4-4; it was in to extra time. The girls were exhausted, they had fought so hard, but they were determined. After a thrilling and action packed extra time, the result was announced that St Bernards had won 6 – 5. This is the closest the girls have ever come to beating St Bernard’s and every time we play them the gap has been narrowed. When speaking to the St Bernard’s after the game, they actually commented on how nice it is to “finally feel challenged by another school”….that’s quite something coming from them and is a credit to the girls who have well and truly helped to put DPA on the sporting map.
Well done team – we’ll get them next year!
