Science

Science is a subject for the incurably curious ‘how does that work?’; ‘what happens next?’; ‘why is that there?’ or simply, ‘what’s that?’ Almost every day new advances and discoveries are making an impact on our lives and we need to be able to understand the possible technical, political, ethical or moral questions they may raise. And in any case it’s FUN!

In Key Stage 3 students are taught topics from Biology, Chemistry and Physics along with 'Working Scientifically' to make links with current affairs and events made explicit to students to encourage think for themselves after understanding the key ideas. Each topic area follows the national curriculum and is planned and put together to build on what the students have learned in Key Stage 2.

More importantly, the aim of the Science curriculum at Ditton Park Academy is to increase the students' understanding of everyday science events and prepare them for qualifications and careers where science applications, analysis and practical skills can be used. The scheme is intended to engage all learners to develop their understanding and enthusiasm.
