The Y7 Sports Arena Challenge which took place on Tuesday 10/10 was a huge success! All students participated with competitiveness and amazing team spirit.

In the challenge, each student took on a role within their team such as Team Leader, Civil Engineer, Accountant, Surveyor etc. Once they were briefed about their role, they worked together to plan a sports arena by choosing the sport and the number of spectators, physically building the arena by choosing their materials carefully. Maths-based challenges involved calculating and checking costs as well as assessing the profits for their Sports Arena. Many students took their role extremely seriously; students were particularly thriving in the Civil Engineer and Accountant roles. Items of different colours were priced varyingly and students had to carefully pick their material to keep costs low; accountants were heard saying phrases such as ‘Use the green ones, they are cheaper!’ 

Overall, the experience has given students a good understanding of various professions and how they come together to build a successful project.
